About AmzerZo AmzerZo
is a 14.5m (48') aluminum cutter designed by
Christophe Lesueur and built in Nantes, France in
1997 by professional shipyard Alumarine (part of the
Grand Large Group). She was custom-designed and
built, with no expense spared and every detail
carefully considered. Her rich, cherry interior was
constructed by the renown Charles Rameau's chantier
in Etel, Brittany. For more technical details about
AmzerZo and her systems, please see the specs
page.
Having been built for a French couple planning a circumnavigation, AmzerZo sailed around the world. She left from Brittany in 1997 and finished her voyage in Malta, where her owners sold her in 2002. The book Un tour du monde à la voile comme on en rêve sur Amzer Zo details their adventures. She was in the Ionian when we purchased her in 2017. The
name. Amzer
Zo is a popular Breton saying meaning "there is
time" or "no rush."
In honor of her heritage and history, she remains "AmzerZo." About us It's not. It's about the Milky Way both below and above us, meteorites lighting up the night sky, the green flash on the horizon, dolphins at our bow, whales in the distance. It's about squeezing the last minutes before sunset out of the spinnaker, or perfectly balancing our sailing machine then enjoying the ride at 7 knots. It's about pretending we're in the Volvo Ocean Race to keep our wits about us in a gale, making landfall on wild, undiscovered-to-us islands, and bonfires on the beach with new friends. It's about not knowing what each new day will bring. Managing resources and being self-sufficient. It's about constantly evolving, learning, changing. Respecting. Creating bonds in new cultures, highlighting our shared humanity, and becoming a local in new places. Making the most of the short time we're all so lucky to have been given, and perhaps making a positive impact. We're thrilled to be AmzerZo's fourth owners and just hope to inspire you to follow your own dreams and to believe anything is possible. We also hope you will learn and perhaps evolve along with us, as we explore this beautiful blue ball. And no, it's not our aim to keep our identities a secret by referring to ourselves as De Captain, Da Admiral and Da Sailing Cat. This website was created for our family and friends. If you happen to come upon it and want to know more, or if you're a long lost or future friend and we happen to be in your area or headed your way, we'd love to hear from you.
